9/17/24, Chico CA >> Tri Counties Bank has joined the Howard Slater Navigation Center campaign with a generous $75,000 donation!

The Howard Slater Navigation Center, an addition to the Torres Shelter, will be the first of its kind in Chico, providing anyone in need (whether they are unhoused or at risk of homelessness) with a location to receive wraparound services and support such as housing assistance, healthcare, counseling, case management, access to community service providers, and more.

Tri Counties Bank has been a longtime partner to True North, serving meals at the Torres Shelter, hosting Christmas donation drives, sponsoring fundraising events, and making financial donations to significant projects.

“Homelessness is a prevailing concern in Chico that we, as a community bank, are striving to mitigate,” said Rick Smith, President and CEO of Tri Counties Bank. “We believe the new Navigation Center will become the one-stop shop for addressing these needs and providing effective guidance to those in need.”

The Howard Slater Navigation Center will serve 90% of the known unhoused population in Butte County. By focusing on homelessness prevention, rapid rehousing and early intervention, the Howard Slater Navigation Center will provide individuals and families with the support they need to stop the cycle of homelessness before it begins.

“We are so grateful for the support of Tri Counties Bank and honored to partner with them for so much of our history to make a difference in our community!” said Taylor Bunch, executive director of True North Housing Alliance. “This significant donation has now put us within $871,000 of our $2.5 million fundraising goal to fully fund the Howard Slater Navigation Center, which is incredible. We are so moved by the community support we have received!”

Tri Counties Bank joins a passionate group of supporters for the Howard Slater Navigation Center. This includes multiple generations of the Slater family, with Howard’s wife Diane, son Brandon, and grandson Revin making a generous $200,000 gift; the North Valley Community Foundation donating $100,000; Chicoan Kirk Monfort pledging $75,000; and Guillon-Brouhard Commercial Real Estate donating $30,000-worth of furniture and equipment.

True North Housing Alliance is now just $871,000 away from reaching their $2.5 million fundraising goal to build the Howard Slater Navigation Center, thanks to community support.

True North Housing Alliance is seeking additional community support to close the gap. Supporters can go to truenorthbutte.org/navigation-center to make their donation today!
