Duke’s Pet Park & Kennel
A passion project years in the making, Duke's Pet Park & Kennel is now officially open at our Torres Shelter!
Duke’s Pet Park & Kennel is an indoor climate-controlled and outdoor kennel, plus an outdoor play space.
It allows our guests at the Torres Shelter to check in their companion animal for safe, short-term boarding while attending work, medical appointments or court, or managing other responsibilities that support their path out of homelessness.
You can help homeless pets today by donating or by purchasing much needed items.
Duke the Great Dane
For years, Duke the Great Dane walked the halls of the Torres Shelter every day alongside his human mom, Jacque.
Duke was the definition of a gentle giant -- guests would coo at him, scratch his head and embrace him. He brightened everyone's day.
After he passed away, Jacque, our Associate Executive Director of Operations, received a beautiful gift. The Torres Shelter's new pet park and kennel space would be named in his honor!
“Duke’s gentle, loving spirit is at the heart of everything we've built here, down to the way we care for every companion animal who comes through our doors,” Jacque said. “It's bittersweet, since I would have loved Duke to be here to see it come to life — but I'm so honored that True North and our Executive Director Taylor Bunch dedicated this space to his memory.”
