Bridge Housing

True North's Bridge Housing programs provide individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Butte County with temporary housing and vital support services while they work on securing permanent housing.

These programs improve their stability and health, as well as maximize their ability to live and work independently.

Aurora North

Aurora North is True North’s bridge housing program designed specifically for families working on securing permanent housing. Each family works with a case manager on their individualized Housing Action Plan.

Families are connected to all available local resources that will increase and stabilize their independence.

True North partners with the Butte County Department of Employment and Social Services’ Housing Support Program, the Esplanade House, and Chico Housing Action Team’s Hand Up Supportive Housing for families for placement of tenancy.

Since Aurora North was founded in August 2019:

172 Children &

136 Parents

have received life-changing support

Cynthia successfully completed our Aurora North program and now lives in her own home with her two sons.

It’s hard for people with children who are out on the streets to find a safe location. The Aurora North program is awesome, safe and it’s very comfortable.

Friends House

Established in 2015, Friends House provides bridge housing to men who have demonstrated stability while at the Torres Community Shelter and are ready to take the next step toward self-sufficiency.

Friends House houses up to 6 men and is staffed by an on-site manager who works with residents on the next phase of life-skills training. They work together to maintain the grounds and share household chores. They receive ongoing case management and other support services at no cost, and agree to avoid the use of alcohol or illegal drugs.

Eligibility is based on the stability of the guest while at the Torres Shelter, and having a reliable source of income. Stability is defined as 90 consecutive days of nightly participation in the Torres Shelter with no suspensions or other disciplinary issues. Applications are reviewed by a panel that includes senior staff and the Friends House manager.

Participants pay a set monthly fee of $350 and are limited to a two-year term. They agree to treat Friends House as their primary residence and are permitted to have friends/family visit, but no overnight guests are allowed and all guests must remain on the ground floor.
