Meet Raymond

About this story: We have a diverse group of guests at the Torres Community Shelter, our emergency shelter for adults and seniors (over the age of 60). We want you to meet them, to hear their stories, to understand the impact we can make together.

For Raymond, the Torres Community Shelter has been a safety net when he’s fallen on hard times throughout his life. He first entered our programs when he was 17 years old.

Raymond says that no matter what he needs help with, he knows he can go to his case manager and find support and make progress. She has helped him get his ID and birth certificate, and is now assisting him with securing Supplemental Security Income and finding a home of his own again.

“The Torres Shelter has always been very welcoming and helped me get on my feet and help myself. I’m grateful for it,” Raymond said.

Raymond told us he is motivated to move forward and regain stability so that he can become reunited with his son and daughter.

He says he’d tell others in need to “take the chance and try and better your life. You have a place that’s willing to help you.”
