12/2/25, Chico, CA >> This Giving Tuesday, True North Housing Alliance is asking our community to show that they support housing for seniors and individuals with disabilities by taking action and donating to the “Home Again” campaign.

When people donate to True North Housing Alliance this holiday season, the impact of their gift is doubled! Thanks to a $30,000 gift from Chuck Patterson and Toyota and a $20,000 gift from the Emil and Leonora Stiefvater Senior Endowment, every dollar raised through Dec. 31st will be matched up to $50,000.

The heartbreaking truth is that senior homelessness is on the rise. Seniors are the fastest-growing group of people experiencing homelessness in the U.S., with nearly 140,000 seniors experiencing homelessness on any given night.

Rising cost of living, limited income, and shortage of available affordable housing units all contribute to this frightening number, which is expected to triple by 2030.

“This is frightening. This is unacceptable. But we are not powerless. Together, we can do something about it,” said Taylor Bunch, Executive Director of True North Housing Alliance. “We are asking our community to donate today to double the impact and send a powerful message to those experiencing homelessness: There is hope for a brighter tomorrow, and we will advocate for a safe, healthy community for everyone.”

In November 2022, True North Housing Alliance created the Home Again fundraiser to combat this troubling statistic and get seniors back where they belong: off the streets and in the safety and comfort of their own homes.

Because of the generosity of our community and partners like Chuck Patterson Toyota and the Emil and Leonora Stiefvater Senior Endowment, Home Again has empowered True North to provide critical shelter and housing services to 579 seniors and counting since 2022!

“Chuck Patterson Toyota is honored to support the Home Again campaign and to partner with Toyota through the Toyota Match Program," said Mike Patterson, Dealer Principal of Chuck Patterson Toyota. "True North Housing Alliance does incredibly important work for families in our community, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute $30,000 toward their mission. Being part of something that directly helps our neighbors find stability and a place to call home is truly meaningful to us.”

The Stiefvater Senior Endowment, created by Emil and Leonora Stiefvater, added that they are dedicated to ensuring that seniors in our community never face their most basic needs alone and they are "proud to partner with True North as they bring the Stiefvaters’ legacy to life in such meaningful and tangible ways.”

“True North carries that mission forward every day at the Torres Shelter through its steadfast commitment to safety, support and compassionate care for people experiencing hardship,” the Stiefvater Senior Endowment said. “Their work provides not only shelter but dignity, stability and a path toward renewed hope."

The Emil & Leonora Stiefvater Senior Endowment at the North Valley Community Foundation exists to support the emotional, physical, and/or spiritual needs of older adults. Its grant program provides financial and infrastructure support to nonprofit organizations that serve seniors.

True North Housing Alliance provides low-barrier, service-enhanced shelter, housing, and street outreach to adults, families, college students, veterans and seniors experiencing homelessness in Butte County, operating 24/7. For 27 years, the nonprofit has focused on its mission of moving people forward and out of homelessness with compassion, dignity and accountability.

In 2024, despite facing significant federal funding cuts and a lack of available affordable housing, True North served a record number of people--over 1,200. The nonprofit also dramatically reduced returns to homelessness and housed nearly 200 people. The organization continued those wins in 2025, opening the Howard Slater Navigation Center and launching homelessness prevention services to break the cycle of homelessness before it begins.
