Howard Slater Navigation Center Propels Toward Fundraising Goal with $45,000 in Donations from Anonymous Supporters
True North Housing Alliance seeking donations to close $415,000 gap on Slater Center

9/29/2025, Chico, CA >> True North Housing Alliance has received $30,000 and $15,000 from two anonymous donors for the Howard Slater Navigation Center, propelling the nonprofit further on its journey to fully fund capital costs.
With these generous donations, True North needs just $415,000 to fund the $2.5 million Slater Center project that will expand services offered to combat homelessness in Butte County, including homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing.
“We are so grateful for the community’s support and passion for the Howard Slater Navigation Center,” said Taylor Bunch, Executive Director of True North Housing Alliance. “We want to thank our two anonymous donors for their dedication to our mission and for helping us get that much closer to fully funding this important project that will make a difference and honor Howard Slater’s legacy.”
True North Housing Alliance is seeking community support to fully fund the Howard Slater Navigation Center by the end of 2025. The nonprofit is asking for donations and ambassadors who are interested in helping to gather support for the Slater Center.
The Howard Slater Navigation Center will help break the cycle of homelessness in Butte County by providing immediate access to shelter, housing assistance and homelessness prevention services in collaboration with dozens of community partners, paving a clear path to permanent housing for all by serving every demographic in need.
The Slater Center is named in honor of the late Howard Slater, a longtime supporter and friend of the Torres Shelter. The Howard Slater Navigation Center honors his efforts to make the world a better place.
Howard Slater was known not only for his reputable work with his family’s construction company, Slater and Son, but also for his generosity and dedication to supporting causes helping local children and families in need. His family has upheld that legacy with their multi-generational efforts to make a difference.
