Meet Executive Director Taylor Storey
True North Housing Alliance is thrilled to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director Taylor Storey!
Taylor Storey has a long history of engagement in public service, beginning with her role as a Butte County Office of Education instructional aide to students with autism spectrum disorder and developmental disabilities when she was just 18. After completing her Master’s in Social Work at Chico State University, Taylor managed a vocational and social/emotional training program for six years for impoverished youth with mental illnesses living in Plumas County.
In this role, Taylor worked with many young people who experienced housing insecurity and homelessness who later went on to attend college or secure viable employment and housing.
Taylor said she is motivated to continue the challenging work of finding viable ways to empower and support the most marginalized members of our community in her role as Executive Director of True North. This issue is near and dear to her heart, as well—Taylor experienced homelessness and housing insecurity as a young adult.
“My vision is to bring these same values and efforts into all that I do in my role with True North Housing Alliance. None of us are immune to the impacts of the housing and homelessness crisis,” Taylor said. “As Executive Director of True North, I will focus on maintaining and increasing employee competency and retention and focus on maintaining and increasing community partnerships to help identify and execute viable solutions to meet the needs of those who are precariously housed or experiencing homelessness in our community.”
Taylor has also served as a Camp Fire Recovery Counselor with the Butte County Office of Education and as an instructor of Social Work and Human Services at Feather River College, where she created innovative degree and job-skills programs for students.
True North Housing Alliance Board Chairman Tim VanderHeiden said the board is excited to welcome Taylor to the True North team.
“Taylor’s shared passion for True North’s mission and her experience serving marginalized populations experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness made her a perfect fit for the position,” he said.
Taylor has been working closely with Former Executive Director Joy Amaro, who has led the organization through multiple disasters and helped True North grow substantially over the past four years, in order to ensure a smooth transition in leadership. Joy said that it has been a pleasure working with Taylor, and she is excited to see what the future of the organization holds with her at the helm.
“Taylor has a great energy and passion for the important work that True North Housing Alliance is doing in our community,” Joy said. “I know that the organization will be in good hands with her and the incredible team that is in place.”
Taylor added: “It’s my honor to build upon Joy’s efforts and successes to help True North Housing Alliance continue to meet its mission of moving people forward and out of homelessness with compassion, dignity and accountability.”
