In this together: Highlighting True North’s Partnership with Chico Noon Rotary

Our community partners play an important role in our successes. Here’s how our friends at Chico Noon Rotary have continued to support our Butte County homeless population during the coronavirus pandemic.

During the coronavirus pandemic, our team at True North Housing Alliance has found it more and more challenging to secure in-demand necessities essential to the smooth, efficient operation of our emergency shelter, the Torres Community Shelter, and our homes for families and adults.

That’s where our community partners with Chico Noon Rotary’s Team Five Scores have stepped up in a big way.

This week, Team Five Scores from Chico Noon Rotary delivered a hefty donation to support our efforts, including cooking and food items—such as coffee, sugar and cooking spray—and cleaning supplies—including bleach, SOS pads, Pine-Sol, Comet, Ajax, and Windex. These items will go a long way in ensuring the health and safety of the adult guests staying at the Torres Shelter and the families and children in our Aurora North Bridge Housing program.

Chico Noon Rotary’s Danie Schwartz, who spearheaded this donation project, said her Rotary team supports our cause: moving people forward and out of homelessness in Butte County with compassion, dignity and accountability. She and Team Five Scores members purchased these much-needed items on their own, and then Schwartz collected them and brought them to the shelter.

It’s one of Chico Noon Rotary’s many ways of giving back and staying engaged with the community during the pandemic while also practicing safe social distancing, Schwartz said.

“When we realized True North Housing Alliance and the Torres Shelter needed these supplies, it was a no-brainer. It’s such a little thing for us and it makes such a big difference. We’re happy to do it.”

Chico Noon Rotary is celebrating its 100th year in Chico, and has been a valued partner of True North and the Torres Community Shelter for years.

James, one of True North’s employees, expressed immense gratitude when the donations arrived this week.

“We couldn’t get a more perfect donation,” he said. “We’ll use every bit of that.”
